A charming fusion of London and Casablanca has created a stylish and comfortable home you will be reluctant to leave. This two bedroom flat is on the first floor of a classic terraced residential road - very quiet and near to Kensal Green station.
This is an attractive room with a large bay window, high ceilings and warm wooden floor boards. The generous proportions easily accommodate a dining table, large sofa and armchair. Lots of interesting decor here including the fully tiled feature fireplace - not the norm in London!
There are two peaceful bedrooms, each with a double beds and storage space. Both are located towards the rear of the building.
The kitchen is a comfortable size and offers an oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, washer and coffee machine. Crockery and utensils are provided.
This is a room guaranteed to turbo boost your day with happy zing. The bathroom is wrapped in hand made tiles imported from Morocco and offers a bath tub with shower over, basin and wc. This is a great tonic for our occasional rainy days.

The home is well located on a sought after street in Kensal Green aka as Kensal Rise. This is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood, popular with both American and French residents because of local schools and trains to the City. Kensal Green has a boho creative edge and favours unique and independent shops and restaurants over high street chains. You are well away from the traditional tourist routes here but well connected to central London by multiple train lines and buses.
The flat was quiet, charming, eclectic, and the owner couldn't have been nicer. He was very welcoming and genuinely interested in ensuring our stay was pleasant. The flat is literally a two- minute walk to the Kensal Green tube station, both underground and overground, and only three stops to Paddington, so very convenient to Central London (at a much lower price than staying in Central London). It's a older apartment, with older furnishings, but the beds were very comfortable, linen was new, and the front room in particular was large, light, and bright. Shops, restaurants, and a launderette are close by. Only negatives are that there's no microwave, and the apartment, while clean, does smell of cigarette smoke. If you're allergic or sensitive (as I am), it takes awhile to air out. Otherwise, really a nice spot to stay, with a genuinely friendly, helpful owner. Marianne, August 2015

Kensal Green is a popular part of north London that has some interesting neighbouring areas such as Notting Hill, Maida Vale, Paddington and Kensington. This is a pleasant residential neighbourhood which seems to have become fairly hip and cool in recent years, boasting quite a few celebrity residents. It has a strong communal sense and excellent transport connections.
The difference between Kensal Rise and Kensal Green is not clear and can be confusing for visitors. The two are pretty much one and the same area and residents use the terms interchangeably. There is The American School in nearby St John's Wood, a Lycée Francais in the former town hall and you will find Europe's first traditional Hindu Temple here, which is open to all.
This area has a lively creative scene and here are are plenty of individual shops and boutiques to browse in. Many of these can be found on Chamberlayne Street in Kensal Rise, which was voted the hippest street in Europe in 2009. Visit the famous Gee Barber; an original gent's barbers from the sixties. The local butcher is popular, as is the flower shop and there is nice selection of cafes, bars, restaurants and gastro pubs to relax in locally.
The Lexi Cinema is quite a place! It is run entirely by volunteers and all profits support a village in South Africa. Besides watching a film, you can enjoy opera, theatre and special exhibitions here, all whilst knowing you are supporting a good cause.
The nearby Queen's Park has a cafe, a Victorian bandstand, a wide selection of sports facilities, plus plenty of fun activities for the kids including a small zoo, paddling pool and playground.
Kensal Green Cemetery is one of the "Magnificent Seven" cemeteries of London and is well worth a visit. There are quite a few royal residents resting here, as well as the graves and tombs of many famous figures of history. A little further off is Wormwood Scrubs, a huge open space that is popular with bird-watchers and runners. There are also several sports facilities inside The Scrubs.
The Kensal Rise Reading Room was specially built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria and was opened by the American writer and humorist Mark Twain in 1901, re-inforcing the American connection in this part of London. This little literary gem has since been renamed The Kensal Rise Library.
Kensal Green is in Zone 2 and the transport links from here are quick and convenient. National Rail runs from Kensal Rise Station and goes to Richmond or Stratford, and the reliable Bakerloo tube line runs from Kensal Green Underground straight into Oxford Circus, in around 15 minutes. The bus service is also good from here, with plenty of buses running into the centre and elsewhere. There is a cycle path along the canal from Kensal Rise to Paddington and to King's Cross via Camden. There is also a water-bus service to be found here.
All in all, Kensal Green is a pleasant and interesting London neighbourhood with lots to recommend it, not least the quick and easy journey-time into the centre.
