Marylebone is a very smart and up-market area of central London – a truly wonderful location from which to explore and shop. The name itself is fun to say. Is it Marlee-b'n or Marry-li-bone? Londoners have their preference and wont be deterred! The name is derived from a church dedicated to St Mary and the Tyburn River, an ancient river that flowed here and into the Thames. Thus St Mary-by-the-Tyburn became Marylebone for short!
Many of London's famous attractions are a short walk away including Harley Street, Regents Park, The Oval for cricket and Madame Tussauds Waxworks. The Royal Academy of Music is here, as is the Royal Society of Physicians and various colleges, business school and universities. One of London's most famous and popular fictional characters is the brilliant Sherlock Holmes. He did his sleuthing on Baker Street at No. 221B with the help of his friend and chronicler, Dr Watson. This building is now The Sherlock Holmes Museum.
The Wallace Collection is to be found here and it is a famous national museum in an historic London Townhouse. There are 25 galleries to peruse as well as furniture, porcelain and a world class armoury. A popular painting is the ever fabulous Girl in a Swing, with her bright dress and one shoe flying off her foot as she sails through the air. She is as admired today as when she was first painted by the French master Jean-Honore Fragonard is 1767.
Regent's Park is well worth a visit. It is home to the London Zoo as well as an open -air theatre, boat-hire, many cafe's and restaurants and huge open spaces that offer a wide range of sporting activities. Runners and dog walkers love Regent's Park. London Zoo is the perfect fun-filled family attraction. The number and variety of exhibitions and animals to observe there is impressive, with new additions and exhibits happening all the time. The reptile house has always been a firm favourite with the youngsters; they may remember a scene with Harry Potter and an escaped snake that was filmed here, from The Philosopher's Stone.
There are innumerable restaurants, pubs, cafes and tea rooms to be enjoyed and all kinds of cuisine to be tried. The main shopping street is Marylebone High Street, but there are plenty of charming side streets to explore in the immediate area. Find some interesting and unusual independent shops and boutiques to browse in. The wonderful Daunt Books is a real, old fashioned bookshops with enormous character and knowledgable staff and there is a farmers market here every Saturday. Marvellous Hyde Park and Oxford Street, with the sublime Selfridges department store, are a pleasant walk away.
There is little need for taxis and tubes when you are staying here because you can easily walk down to Bond Street and even Piccadilly Circus. The transport links are excellent however, should you wish to use them. Baker Street Underground has more than it's fair share of tube-lines and Marylebone Underground also has a mainline railway station by it. The bus service is good.
This is a pleasant, cultured and authentic central London location with oh-so-much to recommend it.

CANCELCancellations made in writing 14 days or more before arrival will be refunded 90% of the total booking fee. Where you give less than 14 days notice of cancellation, we may charge a cancellation fee equivalent to the Agreed Price or two weeks rental, whichever is less.
