Neighbourhood

Life in Battersea close the River Thames ticks along at a pleasant pace. This is a friendly, community based part of London with riverbank attractions, good pubs, bars and restaurants and plenty of green spaces. It's quick and easy to get to popular neighbouring areas such as Chelsea, Fulham and Knightsbridge from here.

Poodle across to wonderful Battersea Park where it's so laid back even the bicycles recline! Feed the ducks, jog or play tennis, sit around and watch the world go by or attend one of the numerous art and antique fairs held periodically throughout the year. If you have little ones there is a state of the art play-park that caters for all ages, a quaint zoo and on the weekends the traditional ice-cream vans are dotted around the park to keep everyone happy. If you are here in early November don't miss the fantastic firework display that the park hosts for Guy Fawkes night - it is truly marvellous and on your doorstep. The wonderful Pump House Gallery in Battersea Park is also worth a visit. This beautiful restored old water tower originally pumped water to the park from the Thames. It is now one of London's loveliest small art galleries housing contemporary art. Admission is free.

That famous London icon, The Battersea Power Station, looms large here adding it's historical weight to the area and that well-known refuge for stray dogs in the capital, The Battersea Dogs Home, established in the late 1800's, is still offering shelter and care for pooches in need! Chelsea Bridge links Battersea with Chelsea and the bridge is lit up at night with clusters of light that shimmer across the Thames. A wonderful sight to see on your evening stroll.

Walking along the River Thames on Chelsea Embankment or on the local Battersea side is therapeutic and interesting. Take a peak at the houseboats - people really do live there - and watch out for the swan couples who are locals on the river and rule supreme.

In and around pretty Battersea Square and Northcote Road you will find an interesting and diverse selection of eateries, cafe's, bars and pubs, some with outdoor tables. There are local shops, grocers and delicatessens to cater for your daily supplies plus a good hairdresser, dry-cleaner, dentist etc. Northcote Road and Lavender Hill have many interesting independent shops, many of them antique. The Northcoate Road Market is not to be missed. Shop till you drop in Chelsea, Knightsbridge or Fulham all of which are just across the river, with Wandsworth, Putney and Vauxhall on either side of you. Or simply people watch in a cafe of your choice before you hop on a bus to take in a West End play.

Clapham Junction mainline station is not far away and is extremely convenient. It is one of the busiest stations in London with numerous connections into London, Kent and Surrey. The area around the station offers many high street shops and restaurants, for example Marks & Spencer’s, Sainsbury's Supermarket, Starbucks and Debenhams Department store. Battersea is a good area for walking or hopping on a bus. The walk (or run) from here over the bridge of your choice into Chelsea and the King's Road is an enjoyable and popular one.

If you cancel less than forty two nights before your stay we will make our best effort to re-let the home and offer you a pro-rata refund. However, this can not be guaranteed and we urge you to have travel insurance in place.
